    The Value of Religion

Two-Minute Takeaways from The Urantia Book

True religion has tremendous value. It offers profound enrichment for our individual lives, the relationships among us, and our civilization.

    Religion Nurtures Our Inner Lives

Religion is not confined to places of worship. The most essential and profound home of religion is in the personal inner life of believers—you and me. Personal religion is an active, living presence in the hearts and minds of all those who seek spiritual truth and assurance.

We find the divine within ourselves. In that quiet inner reality, we accept the friendship and love we are offered and are inspired to lead lives of greater meaning, greater love, and greater purpose.

Religion Frees Us For a Personal Spritual Journey

A personal religion opens the door to growth and self-discovery. Honest pursuit of self-discovery makes clear to us that we live at a moral and ethical level. Such awareness can lead us to explore the mysteries of existence and become aware of God’s divine spirit in each of us.

As we deepen our connection with that divine spirit, we grow in love. Our lives take on greater meaning and purpose. Through personal religious experience, we find support in times of challenge, strength in moments of weakness, and profound insights that guide us.

    Religion Reveals Our Interconnectedness

Whether we are a part of a group or acting individually, the spirit within us gently urges us to make a difference in our world—for one person or for many people. Loving service for others takes many forms, but all of them make our world a better place.

In this imperfect world there is no shortage of need—whether it is for the basics of food and shelter, for loving concern and friendship, or for fairness in the midst of greed. The spirit that lives in each of us urges us to be helpful to others.

    Religion Draws Us Together

We who love God are naturally drawn together. We may find spiritual family in an established religious institution. We may discover spiritual family in friends or informal groups. However we connect, our spiritual family supports us as we strive to live a life of love in the midst of a world in conflict.

Personal religion inspires us to transcend our own self-interest and to cooperate with our spiritual family. Together we identify ways to help others. We find joy in our experience of service. The groups that form become known for their loving attitude, and their principles become respected. They create a group culture of compassion, unselfish service, and spiritual unity.

True Religion Fosters the Development of Civilization

Unselfish motivation growing out of true religion has the power to move societies and even the world at large toward transformation. Our personal religious experience leads us to share our spiritual lives through unselfish service and to treat all people with kindness. The results from such actions for good and service for others is contagious and can inspire others. Religion at work in us makes a difference in the world.
